Do you currently own or plan to buy a Midea Duo portable Air Conditioner? This is a smart device with an available app for both Android and iOS. Problem is that the Midea Duo is not compatible with Apple HomeKit so you can't use it in the Apple Home app or use the Apple automations. Midea has a few new models that do have this capability.

Midea support will tell you the Midea Duo is not upgradable. They don't recommend taking apart the air conditioner and don't have an upgrade plan for these units.

Upgrade it yourself with this step by step instruction guide!

Why upgrade for Apple HomeKit support?

🗣️ Ability to control your Midea Duo with Siri commands

🤖 Ability to set automations in Apple Home

Total cost

This detailed guide is only $20. You'll also need to purchase the Matter Midea wifi dongle which is $15.95 plus shipping (link to dongle inside the guide).

Difficulty

I would rate the difficulty 2.5 out of 5 stars. In order to install the new Wifi dongle, you'll be required to remove the back and front panels of the device. There are clips, wires and sensitive components you'll need to be careful of.

Disclaimer
Your Midea Duo has a 1 year factory warranty. This may void the warranty as you are installing a part they can claim is not "compatible". In the event of a warranty claim, I'd recommend swapping back to the original Wifi dongle before sending in for repair.
